Steeltown Sports: Live!

(recorded broadcasts from 590 AM, WMBS Uniontown)

July 6, 2006 Interview: Ike Taylor, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback. Ike tells us about his training regimen when he was younger, his charity works, and shares his "If you don't work, you don't eat" philosophy.

July 5, 2006 Interview: Trenni Kusnierek of FSN Pittsburgh. The first part of this interview was not taped (tape started late). But most of the interview is there. She reveals the difficulties (and perks) of becoming a sportscaster in an industry dominated by man, as well as other things.

  • --Update 2/16--
Work continues to keep me away from what I love. But seriously, if yinz guys think I should get rid of my 30-minute time limit, or maybe change my format, your suggestions are not only welcome, they are humbly requested! And I'll try any reasonable request once. At least once! Also, if you'd like to have your own audio commentary on something relating to Pittsburgh sports, shoot me an e-mail and let me know. FYI, the mirror site for this page is: here

    --Update 2/5--
It's been a crazy 3 weeks. Not only because the Steelers are Superbowl bound (and kicking off in less than 2 hours from when I type this), but...it's just crazy. I highly recommend checking out the special podcast. And as always, your comments and reviews are welcome.

    --Update 1/16--
Holy cow! The Steelers advance! Now onto Denver. Is our long-awaited Superbowl berth really located on the road, and not within the confines of the Steel City? This podcast was done like some of the early ones...without benefit of many notes. Just opinions and thoughts right off the cuff. Feel free to disagree with me. In fact, I encourage you to. I don't read many e-mails over my podcast because I don't receive many. Only you can help me out with that!

    --Update 1/12--
Good grief. This is probably the first day I've even been ABLE to do a podcast since the last one. Lots and lots of work on my schedule this month. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this podcast. I think I was speaking a bit loudly into my tempermental microphone this time. There are also fun, extraneous cell phone noises throughout as mine was charging next to my computer the whole show. *sheepish grin*

    --Update 1/04/06--
Happy New Year, yinz guys! I hope your holidays were pleasant and that you're not broke. And also that you're enjoying this streak of good fortune that has befallen the Pittsburgh teams in the past couple of week. Hopefully, there will be more good news to report on the next podcast! Please subscribe to my show! Please tell a friend! Please send feedback! And, most importantly, please keep listening!

    -- Update 12/22--
The radio station I work for has finally secured its online broadcast. Rock on. Also got a 5-star review from someone who I'm pretty sure I don't know. Very flattering to know that some folks are truly enjoying my little labor of love here. I need more subscribers and an ingenious (and cheap) way to advertise this podcast.

    --Update 12/13--
I should have done my show yesterday when everything was all good, but nooo...I had to wait until the Penguins came back to earth in Detroit. *edit* Anyway, enjoy #11. It's a good 'un.

    --Update 12/05--
The Steelers virtually losing the division yesterday to Cincy kind of inspired me to get another podcast out quickly. That, and also to remove the one full of "popping 'P's" to be relegated to the next-to-last podcast. Still tripping over my tongue a bit. I think this is due to my self-regulated time constraint. Your thoughts welcome.

Also, I was on the air at WMBS-AM in Uniontown on Dec 3 for about 20 minutes. Perhaps my dream to do sports talk for a living is closer than I think (though still pretty far off)... You can listen live. The show I was on was great. I hope to be on it every Saturday from 10PM-11PM Eastern. Click here for homepage. Once there, click "listen live" to get the streaming feed.

    --Update 12/01--
Man, I don't know what's up with my microphone. I wasn't speaking directly into it, but I musta been doing something wrong, because just about every "P" sound in the cast blows up. That, and I had a case of "tongue trips" today. But at least I felt very comfortable with it.

    -- Update 11/21 --
Just a thank you for your continued support. This podcast was one of the "easiest" I've done. I hope this means I'm hitting some semblance of a "groove".

    --Update 11/11--
It's getting more difficult to keep these programs under 30 minutes. I had to trim some material out to make it fit. I know podcast 2 runs over, but I hadn't yet decided on the 30-minute framework. I even had a couple more items, regarding the playing time of Sidney Crosby and I wanted to read a bit more of "Chad"s e-mail. If you think I should jettison the time-limit idea, so long as I have plenty of content, drop me an e-mail. Also, rate my podcasts, both individually and as a whole, on my Yahoo! Podcast page!

    --Update 11/1--
Two new spots (one for BSG), if for nothing else than to break up the monotony of the same BSG spot that's "aired" on the past 5 podcasts. Hey, I like that spot. I think it's professional calibur, but I understand how tired it can get. The show's not bad, too, though I seem to be a bit distracted and tripping over my tongue. Follow along if you can. :)

    --Update 10/21/05--
There are times, many times, when I wish I didn't work two jobs. Then I'd be able to pursue this just a bit more frequently. But I think it's getting there. As always, I encourage you to send me feedback, suggestions, questions, comments, hot women, money, sandwiches, whatever. It will only make this show better. I think one of my cats gets a bit of background "airplay" in the 2nd half, too. My first "guest".

    --Update 10/4/05--
New episode added today. Please e-mail me at SteeltownMike@burghsportsguys.com if you want to bring up a topic (preferably related to Pittsburgh sports, but things of the national scope will not be immediately "cast aside"), compliment/critique the show, etc. This show is supposed to be yours, too.

    --Update 9/18/05--
Episode 3 is up. Another session with just a few notes and ramblings from the top of my head. I guess another attempt at being Mark Madden. You may notice that while my thoughts are largely connected, it becomes difficult for me to go back on the original points because I took way too many tangents. Still a good listen. And I must give credit to my way-hot girlfriend for providing the female voice in both the opener of Podcast 2, and the "sponsor credit" during the open of Podcast 3.

    -- Update 8/31/05 --
Thanks to the computer stylings of H2Oman, we're finally up. A bit outdated, but we're still feeling our way through this. As this program is streaming, most of you should be able to listen to the opening segments of both without having to wait for these huge files to finish downloading.

    -- Update 8/18/05 --
I wanted to let yinz guys know that this first show was done without benefit of outline or notes. I quickly went over certain things and recorded the entire show stopping only twice. Once because I kept tripping over my own tongue, and the second because I hadn't quite figured out how I wanted the show to end. Yes, I got the date wrong. Should have been either Wednesday Aug 17, or Thursday Aug 18. If I still worked a M-F 8-5 job, I would have realized that.

I also got a couple of factual snafus back, and I intend on addressing those in the opening portion of the next show. I haven't come up with a title for that yet, but each mistake I find or my attention is brought to, it will be featured in the next show. I'm not perfect/omniscient like Mark Madden. I only want the show to become better each time. Thanks, guys!
